2010 Chateau Puech Haut Prestige
This $18 wine grabbed a 94 point score from the Rhone Report and is made by a star-studded wine making team, which makes this wine, at least on paper, the buy of the century. It’s a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 5% Mouvedre and 5% Carignan the Languedoc. Let’s see if it lives up to it’s lofty reputation!
Xplorador Wines
I’ve wanted to do a review of these chilean value-priced offerings for a while, so here’s the merlot, carmenere, and chardonnay! At only around $8 each, these could turn out to be a steal if they are as good as I’m told. Let’s find out!
This $10 wine grabbed a 90 point score from Stephen Tanzer making it, at least on paper, the buy of the century. In addition, it’s 100% Graciano which is a variety normally used in a small portion of the usual trempanillo-based Rioja blend. With this score and the unusual choice for a varietal wine, I couldn’t pass up the chance to try out this Rioja with all of you. Cheers!
Bota Box Wines
At the request of a viewer, I’m tasting the merlot, cabernet, pinot grigio, and chardonnay from Bota Box, an eco-friendly wine producer based in California. Of course the question we all ask when confronted with a wine that arrives in something other than a glass bottle is, are they doing this because it’s eco-friendly or because it’s cheap? Well at $4 for 500ml, it certainly is inexpensive to find out, so let’s see what they bring to the table!
